SUMMERGATE WINERY
SummerGate Winery is a 10 acre certified organic vineyard with a newly opened boutique winery and tasting room in Summerland in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. The winery produces approximately 600 cases of wine a year of premium white varietals of Riesling, Kerner, and Muscat Ottonel. Right from the start it has always been about the creation of premium wines using
certified organic grapes from their own vineyard. They use natural techniques such as reduced crop yield, special canopy and vineyard management practices, and working - as nature intended -
without petro-chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers to ensure the production of high quality fruit. Hand harvested and gently pressed, their wines are slowly fermented in small batch stainless steel tanks. The result is an amazingly fresh, crisp, fruit forward wine series. All of their wines are VQA approved and made using BC Certified Organic Grapes.
Featured at Viti Wine and Lager Store:
Kerner 2010
Tasting Notes
A beautiful bouquet of white peach and a well rounded creamy mid-palate with a taste of lime and ripe apricot. Slightly sweet and very juicy with a long-lasting finish. Pairs well with spicy Indian or Thai cuisines or tropical fruit salad dessert.
GOLD MEDAL - 2011 SUMMERLAND'S BEST WHITE WINE OVER 10.1g/L RS
Muscat Ottonel 2010
Tasting Notes
A wonderful, classic Muscat character with a pronounced floral bouquet of rose petal and apricot blossom. Stone fruits carry onto the palate followed by a juicy tangerine and grapefruit finish. Fresh and full, finished with a touch of residual sweetness. A perfect summer patio sipper or pair with Spot Prawn, pan-seared Scallop or Pacific Northwest Halibut.

I’ve never quite understood the claim that certain things are “The Best of...” any given year. Unless we are talking about judging like against like, one can’t very well say that a certain Oatmeal Stout is better than a certain IPA. How about the latest collection of arias by Anna Netrebko against the newest Rihanna warblings? Or one of thousands of German Rieslings, beating out thousands of California Cabernets, as best wine? In what universe?
Yet these assertions are routinely made in various media and uncritically, we’re content to gobble them up. So to change things a little I present a more reasonable list of
Most Memorable Beer that we carried at Viti Wine & Lager this past year. The list is in no particular order of preference but I hope it will provoke some pleasant memories.
